From our beginning in 1970 as a project on a much smaller scale, we have grown in size and stature to become a recognized provider of quality, diversified, and comprehensive special education services. The Cooperative began serving students with disabilities long before state and federal laws were enacted to mandate such services. The students NISEC serves have unique educational needs that are addressed through individualized special or modified programs.

Partners

NISEC has a strong partnership. Our intense desire to provide students with the best services and skilled staff support comes from a strong commitment of 10 "partners" who help us to expand programs that are available to students and their families in Lake County. Board Members

A school board member, superintendent, or assistant superintendent from each of our partner corporations comprises NISEC's Board of Managers. Our Board meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. to monitor the Cooperative's activities and to assure continued support from local, state, and federal agencies.

"The purpose of Navigating Your Way through Indiana's Special Education Rules is to provide an overview and a practical resource to help parents, advocates, school personnel, and students understand the requirements of Indiana's special education rules, found at 511 IAC 7-32 through 47, commonly known as Article 7. It is intended to serve as a companion guide to Article 7, replacing the previous Live, Learn, Work, and Play document and is not a substitute for Article 7. Please refer to Article 7 for the specific language of the Rules."
